Implementing Responsible AI – case studies in responsibly accessing the capabilities of Generative AI
As a follow up to the FEAL February 2024 luncheon series ‘Are you ready for Responsible AI?’ KPMG and Microsoft talked to how they considered and navigated risk in designing, building and deploying KPMG’s Trusted AI agent, KymChat, within months of ChatGPT’s launch. KPMG talked to their KymCompliance tool as a case study for the future of risk & compliance management and Microsoft shared their broader experiences in developing AI tools.
Nathan Robinson, Partner, KPMG
Nathan is a Partner in KPMG’s Regulatory and Compliance practice and having commenced his career at ASIC just prior to the launch of the Financial Services Licensing regime, he has worked in FS compliance and risk for more than 20 years. At KPMG Nathan provides compliance and related advisory services to clients across all industries, with a particularly focus on wealth management and ASIC regulation & enforcement.
Across almost 20 years at KPMG, Nathan has assessed, improved, designed and implemented compliance frameworks, policies and controls for financial services licensees, leveraging his in-depth knowledge of regulator expectations, industry best practice and the international compliance standard to help his clients comply with their obligations and deliver the right consumer outcomes. More recently this has involved Nathan playing a key role in delivering KPMG’s trusted AI compliance solution, KymCompliance to his clients.
Rebecca Engel, Head of Capital Markets | Microsoft Australia and New Zealand
Rebecca is a dedicated and energetic industry leader with over two decades of experience in Superannuation, Wealth Management, Insurance and Banking.
She has led the Financial Services Industry strategy at Microsoft and now serves as the Head of Capital Markets for Microsoft ANZ, supporting and innovating with Superannuation, Asset, and Wealth Management firms. Additionally, Rebecca holds an MBA from MGSM, is a member of AICD and previously held the position as a Non-Executive Director of the RegTech Association.
Leveraging her tenure at Microsoft with her industry Product, Sales, Risk and Operations experience, she drives digital transformation and value creation within the Financial Services industry.
Brad Daffy, Partner, KPMG
Brad leads KPMG’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) services for the financial services sector and partners with clients to understand their AI vision, using his global experience to help turn their vision into reality. He has led the design and implementation of multiple AI technology solutions, which have helped clients to better serve their customers when calling their contact centres, accelerate procurement timeframes, and digitise and automate finance processes. He supports clients to embed AI within their business through the development of AI strategies, governance and operating models and by identifying use cases to generate business value.
Brad has worked with leading global companies across the US and Australia to explore how disruption is changing the demands of their enterprises. He determines how to best respond to their challenges by exploiting new technologies such as AI and intelligent automation to transform both the customer and employee experience.
His industry experience includes financial services, retail, industrial manufacturing, healthcare and life sciences and government.
Paul Mahoney, Associate Director, KPMG
Paul is an Associate Director in KPMG’s Technology Consulting practise, where he specialises in solving complex business challenges through advanced technology solutions. Dermot McCutcheon, Director KPMG
Dermot is a Director in KPMG’s Solutions team, responsible for a Portfolio of Trusted AI offerings, including the Trusted AI Governance framework, KPMG’s methodology for ensuring safe, ethical and transparent AI driven outcomes. A Chartered Accountant by training, Dermot has worked extensively in business leadership roles in the technology sector across the region, supporting his clients leverage their technology investments to deliver business value.
