The world has been disrupted. Now more than ever resilience is at the forefront and will determine how we go forward. This year the theme of the FEAL Conference is “Resilience, how to survive and thrive in a time of disruption”.

Due to the level of uncertainty we have decided to hold a virtual FEAL conference. We value all our members and our goal is and always will be to further their professional development. In this time of constant change the importance of and demand for executive education and development continues.

We were delighted to host our Keynote speaker Dr Julia Baird.

Dr Julia Baird is a best selling author and award-winning journalist. She hosts The Drum on ABC TV and writes columns for The New York Times, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Washington Post and The Guardian.

Julia received both her B.A. and Ph.D. in history from Sydney University. She is a regular commentator on television and radio. Her new book, Phosphorescence: On awe, wonder and the things that sustain you when the world goes dark is a number one best seller.

We were pleased to have guest speakers Travers McLeod and Samantha Herbert.

Travers McLeod is the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Policy Development. He leads their strategic and policy agenda, working across each of their policy programs. He holds a DPhil and MPhil (Dist) in International Relations from Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes scholar and was a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. He remains an Associate of the Oxford Martin School and holds adjunct positions at the University of Melbourne and the University of Western Australia.

Travers will discuss ‘Ten steps to a stronger Australia after the pandemic’.

Samantha works as a professional facilitator, storyteller and story coach in organisations and also 1:1. She has a large breadth of experience in the corporate world working with some of Australia’s largest and most innovative companies.

Samantha will talk about ‘Identifying common values and shared belief systems to build empathy and resilience via the art of story’. Storytelling is one of the most powerful and fundamental ways humans communicate and connect. There is nothing that Samantha is more passionate about then writing and sharing stories to support more authentic connection and expression in the world.

Introducing our panel; Rob Dunn, Chair, BaptistCare, Professor Jill Klein, Melbourne Business School, and Richard Spencer, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Business Australia, facilitated by David Braga.

Robert Dunn, Chair, BaptistCare

Robert is the Global Executive Director of Opportunity International, a not-for-profit organisation that provides people living in poverty with the opportunity to transform their lives through microfinance and community development programs. He is also the Chair of BaptistCare NSW & ACT, a leading care organisation that has been serving the aged and people living with disadvantage for 75 years.

Professor Jill Klein, Melbourne Business School

Professor of Marketing at Melbourne Business School and a Professorial Fellow in Medical Education at Melbourne Medical School, Jill Klein received her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1990. Her teaching specialties are Decision-Making, Resilience, and Leadership. Her research interests are medical decision making, coping with medical error, medical student resilience, corporate social responsibility, and international marketing.

Richard Spencer, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Business Australia

Richard Spencer is Chief Customer Experience Officer at Business Australia, and is accountable for developing and implementing the organisation’s customer strategy, to maximise customer acquisition, engagement, retention and profitability. As CXO, Richard oversees Business Australia’s total customer experience, from identifying and understanding customer needs, to creating an enterprise wide customer experience framework.
