We welcomed Alison Bodinnar, Head of Product and Proposition, and Tamara Bailey, Head of Group Claims at MLC Life Insurance to share insights from recent consumer research exploring members’ needs and expectations when it comes to default disability cover in super.
In this luncheon series we dived into the challenges faced by members today and explore how funds and insurers can work together to improve outcomes for members. We uncovered critical insights to help us understand how we can improve the lives of Australians facing disability.

Alison Bodinnar
Head of Product & Proposition, MLC Life Insurance
Alison Bodinnar, a seasoned professional with over 25 years of industry experience across both local and international markets, leads the Group Product & Proposition team at MLC Life Insurance.
Driven by a deep commitment to improving outcomes for members, Alison empowers her team to deliver innovative life insurance solutions that cater to the diverse and evolving needs of superannuation fund members. Her experience in both domestic and international markets gives her a well-rounded understanding of the industry and allows her to bring a broader perspective to her role.
Alison is a passionate advocate for design innovation and is spearheading the disability design initiative at MLC Life Insurance. She is committed to enabling change across the group industry and ensuring that the system provides the necessary support for members when they need it most.
Tamara Bailey
Head of Group Claims, MLC Life Insurance
Tamara Bailey provides leadership to the Group Claims department at MLC Life Insurance. With over 10 years of insurance claims experience and a background in legal practice and customer service, Tamara has a passion for developing member centric solutions using innovative techniques to ensure continuous uplift of the claims experience. She advocates for processes that support members being treated fairly and with respect throughout their claim.
Tamara also chairs an industry group, leading and collaborating with a group of representatives from insurers, reinsurers and service providers to deliver thought leadership and professional education content aimed at improving the skills and standards of claims professionals to target sustainable and member focused claims practices industry-wide.

Penny Paré
Penny is Senior Manager, Insurance at Australian Retirement Trust where she has responsibility for the insurance arrangements offered to members. This includes the design, operation and pricing of the insurance offer and the relationships with ART’s insurance partners.
Penny has been lucky enough to contribute to the retirement outcomes of Australians for over 25 years, having worked across all areas of super, with a specialty in insurance.
Richard Land
Richard is Head of Insurance Product at AustralianSuper, responsible for the Fund’s insurance offering. He leads the group insurance stream of the Actuaries Institute’s Disability Insurance Task Force and co-chairs the SMCA Peer Learning Group on Insurance in Super.
Dean Kambouroglou
Dean has over 10 years’ experience in the superannuation and insurance sector in roles such as product management, strategy, business transformation and administration. Dean currently leads Aware Super’s insurance team and is focussed on driving growth through the development of Aware Super’s insurance proposition and providing direction and leadership on the insurance offer of one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds.
